Tāmaki Makaurau’s beaches are some of the most sought-after swim spots in the country. But despite their beautiful reputation, their water’s not always safe for swimming in.
Introducing Safeswim — a digital interface that pulls real-time data from Auckland’s beaches and swim spots to give people an accurate, up-to-date reading of the water quality in their location of choice.
Using live science feeds feeding information through water beacons, we worked with Auckland Council to develop a digital ecosystem and web app that creates a live feed of bacteria and safety levels of swim spots around the entire coast of Tāmaki Makaurau.
This was the first platform in the world to combine scientific data with water safety gauges and present it in a way the public can easily discern whether or not their spot’s safe to swim in that day.
